Sure, Darnold isn’t good enough to light up the Rams defense and outgain a Rams offense that looks rejuvenated. But what other option does Minnesota have? It’s not like Darnold will revert back to his Jets days; he just won’t represent his best football that came earlier in the season. That’s still good enough to take advantage of two things against the Rams defense — each a pathway to scoring: The big-play capability in both Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, plus the return of T.J. Hockenson, a trusted tight end companion.
T.J. Hockenson Over 43.5 Receiving Yards
Hockenson is back and has taken no time to re-adjust to the offense. A staple for at least five targets so far, the Darnold-to-Hockenson connection looks fresh. Darnold will see a typical Rams strategy of overshadowing one guy — I am guessing here it’s going to be All-Planet receiver Jefferson — and leave a few spots open. Taking the top off is also going to be difficult as the entire world knows about Addison’s speed. Hockenson will have short to medium spots open, and Darnold might not have enough time to hit anyone else.
