We are using our DraftKings 33% same-game parlay profit boost for this game, so naturally the first move is to take this to 7.5. We cross two key numbers in the move and gain some edge back with the profit boost. There were a couple of key absences in the first game, namely T.J. Hockenson, but I’m more concerned with how poorly Detroit played against San Francisco. The Vikings continue to be undervalued each week despite Sam Darnold’s play, their offense ripping through opponents and the incredible job Kevin O’Connell is doing. Minnesota is a live dog.
Sam Darnold 2+ ing Touchdowns
The Vikings offense refuses to slow down. Darnold gets a boost with Hockenson back against his former team, and Minnesota should be taking full advantage of Detroit’s love affair with man defense. I’m staying away from the total because both secondaries need help defending receivers; it is easier to focus on the quarterback who routinely gets downplayed despite putting up numbers. Trends are just that, but Darnold cleared this in six of his last seven — the outlier being a laugher against Chicago. Darnold is moving the ball in the air with supreme confidence. Between Hockenson, Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, Darnold is going to have at least two in the air.
Jordan Addison 70+ Receiving Yards
Here’s where it gets tricky — or fun in our case. Addison missed this number the first time around without Minnesota’s starting tight end. There are probably some expectations of a similar result, especially with Hockenson back. This is far more about the massive ing funnel Detroit provides with its man and safety help defense. To put it blunt, receivers eat against the Lions. Addison went for 69 against the Packers, including a score. He has long-reception capability on nearly every route he runs. The Lions — like most of the betting public — will be working on a gameplan for Jefferson, not Addison.
T.J. Hockenson 50+ Receiving Yards
Our anchor leg is possibly my favorite across the board. This is a narrative sandwich topped with anything but mayo. Hockenson missed the first bout against his former team, and make no mistake: Minnesota will look to get him the ball. It’s not so much “revenge” as it fits a common theme of guys playing well against former teams. Sometimes it works against them if a squad has a legit offense or defense to combat the skill set. We can all agree Detroit isn’t going to magically figure out how to cover him in man defense.
