Now let’s get to the pick for today. We’re heading to Tampa for this one, where the Buccaneers are hosting Washington in a playoff showdown.
Free NFL Expert Pick: Buccaneers -3
Tampa Bay enters this matchup as a 3-point favorite, and I love it in this spot. If you can find the line at -2.5, even better — but don’t stress if you have to take the flat -3 at a reasonable price.
These teams met back in Week 1, a game where I also bet on Tampa. While that’s not directly relevant now, it’s a reminder of how much the Buccaneers have grown over the season. Last week, Tampa took care of business against the Saints. Baker Mayfield has been a huge part of its success, and while I’ve had my doubts about him in the past, he’s been excellent this year.
Tampa’s offense is well-rounded, with playmakers like Mike Evans, Bucky Irving and Jalen McMillan leading the way. Its defense has been solid too, especially against the run. The secondary has been banged up, but if it can get a little healthier, it will be in good shape to contain Washington’s ing attack.
Washington has had a great season behind standout performances from Jayden Daniels and a strong receiving corps led by Terry McLaurin and Zach Ertz. However, it has struggled to stop the run, ranking 28th in opponent yards per rush attempt. That’s a big red flag against a Tampa running back averaging over 5 yards per carry. If the Bucs can establish the ground game early, Washington will have a tough time staying in this one.
I trust Tampa Bay to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Mayfield has the tools to lead this team to victory, especially with a strong running game and a defense capable of slowing down Washington. I’m calling for the Bucs to win and cover the 3-point spread.
