Super Bowl 58 Gatorade Color Pick, Odds & Legal States

Updated February 11, 2024 | 7:20 am CDT by Eytan Shander

It’s the largest game of the year for any sport — a betting magnet like no other. The Super Bowl brings in far more than just the casual bettor, as we see novelty props in markets unheard of in any regular season contest. One of those is the color of the Gatorade from the winning team — usually shown during the bath given to the head coach. It may take a zoom or a couple of rewinds, but that’s the best way to indicate which color. Believe it or not, there is some minor strategy with this bet, including the history of one of the coaches. Let’s dive into the Super Bowl 58 Gatorade color odds and legal states as we make our pick.

Before we get going with our best Gatorade color bet, make sure to check out OddsShopper ahead of the big game, as our industry-leading tools can give you an edge heading into this monster event.

States Where You Can Legally Bet on the Super Bowl 58 Gatorade Color

The color of the inevitable post-game Gatorade bath is one of the best Super Bowl novelty props. Because there’s an argument that the color correlates with the team that wins the Super Bowl, this one is a bit less sketchy than the others. FanDuel listed the following states as ones in which it intended to take online action on the market: Arizona, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey and West Virginia.

The only main strategy here is to base this pick on your preferred winner of the game. Andy Reid is a multi-time Super Bowl winner with two different Gatorade colors poured on him in each of his last two Chiefs wins.

Although he received an orange Gatorade bath after his first Super Bowl with Kansas City, that color changed to purple for last year’s win over the Eagles. That presents us with another minor strategy to apply here — whether the game will be close.

The most rational theory as to why the Gatorade changed from orange to purple — from the past two baths — is that the Chiefs were locked in a tight one with the Eagles. While they needed 21 unanswered against the Niners in Super Bowl 54, San Francisco was dead, utterly unable to do anything on either side of the ball.

The Eagles game last year was a dog fight with both teams returning blows until the final whistle. Even if a team is coming from behind, cruising in the fourth quarter usually leaves the equipment manager to tend to other things. Teams won’t request a refill with the Gatorade running low when their team has the lead.

Super Bowl 58 Gatorade Color History

The Gatorade bath goes back to an unlikely name associated with such a loud celebration. Bill Parcells and his New York Giants were credited with the first dousing of Gatorade as the tradition took off ever since. The betting history of this prop goes back to the early 2000s with the Ravens showering Brian Billick.

Through the past 20-plus years, we’ve accumulated enough data to see any trends with any teams fortunate enough to win more than one Super Bowl. Of course, like most trends entrenched in history, there’s context if a team’s been out of this big game for a decade-plus, versus winning just last year. It’s a fun bet with “none” hitting as recently as Super Bowl 51 with — you guessed it — Bill Belichick.

The Chiefs may be underdogs, but that’s exactly where Patrick Mahomes and Reid are most dangerous. Mahomes is 13-1 ATS as a dog in his career, including 12-0 away from home. He’ll do anything and everything possible to secure another bath for his Hall of Fame head coach. Reid and Mahomes won’t need any massive comeback — they will be up enough in the fourth.

Reid isn’t too shabby himself as a dog, including against the other guy on Sunday. Kyle Shannahan is 0-3 SUATS against Big Red. That may be Reid’s nickname, but it certainly won’t match the color of his Gatorade bath in Vegas. There’s value on orange, especially since purple is getting love for the wrong reasons.
