Eagles Super Bowl Odds On The Rise After Draft Day
Per BetMGM, the Eagles Super Bowl championship odds were at +900 before Thursday night. After making a series of moves during Round 1 of the NFL Draft, the Eagles’ Super Bowl odds now sit at just +850. That puts them behind just the Kansas City Chiefs (+650). The Buffalo Bills are also at +850.
The Eagles traded up to the No. 9 pick to draft Georgia Bulldogs defensive lineman Jalen Carter. He was the No. 1 ranked player on ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr’s big board, but fell off due to some off-the-field issues. Carter left the NFL Combine early after an arrest warrant was issued stemming from a reckless driving case in January.
“We understand that all these players, they need to be developed, they’re coming into the league at a very young age, they’re not finished products,” said general manager Howie Roseman, per ESPN. “You just want to really get to know the person and what’s in their heart. When we got to know Jalen, we just felt like here’s a kid that does love football, obviously he’s a winner — he won in high school, he won in college — and we felt like we have really good people in this building: We have a really good staff, we have really good players who are good people, we have really good coaches, and we felt like it was a good fit for us.”
The Eagles would also add linebacker Nolan Smith with the No. 30 pick in the first round, adding more talent to an already-impressive defensive unit.
The Eagles ranked second in the NFL in opponents’ yards per game in 2022-23 (301.5) but let the potnet Kansas City Chiefs offense carve them up in the second half of the Super Bowl loss. The addition of Carter and Smith should bring even more energy to the Eagles’ defense, keeping them an elite unit for years to come.
Philly proved last season that they are capable of competing for a Super Bowl with this core. And based on the latest Eagles Super Bowl odds, the team’s brass is putting the team in even better position to finish the job in 2023.
