Orange Bowl Pick & Prediction
A College Football Playoff snub according to some, Florida State ruined the Orange Bowl with a slew of opt outs. Despite finishing 13-0, they will barely field a full team against Georgia. Conversely, Georgia hasn’t had many departures, making this a name-your-score spot for the Bulldogs.
On offense, Carson Beck commands one of College Football’s most lethal offenses. Beck has a 72.3% completion percentage for 9.4 yards per attempt, 22 scores, and ten turnover worthy plays. There is some speculation whether Brock Bowers or Amarius Mims will play. This honestly shouldn’t matter. Beck will still have multiple backs and elite catchers in Dominic Lovett, Ladd McConkey, and Rara Thomas to throw to.
The Florida State defense is completely decimated from opt outs and transfer portal losses. This team will be down as many as seven starters without any experienced replacements. Diving into specifics is just a waste of time. Georgia should score at will.
As for Florida State’s offense, backup Tate Rodemaker hit the transfer portal after the Seminoles already lost Jordan Travis for the year. Brock Glenn proved utterly incompetent under center and will now be without Keon Coleman, Johnny Wilson, Jaheim Bell, and Trey Benson.
The Georgia defense lost just Jamon Dumas-Johnson to the transfer portal and allegedly haven’t had any opt outs. This team excelled in every efficiency metric except rush. They’ve blown out far better teams than the current edition of Florida State, making them a value anywhere below three scores.
