Georgia-Texas Expert Pick: Over/Under

Both of these teams have title expectations, even if their paths are a little different. For Georgia, it’s a return to glory mindset after being the class of college football in recent years. For Texas, it’s proving they belong amongst those type of teams — and within the SEC. Regardless of who wins on Saturday both of these teams will be dangerous going forward.

Let’s begin with Georgia. The Bulldogs are no stranger to big games — they’ve already gone into Tuscaloosa this year. They immediately went down by double digits and tried to rally with a heroic second-half effort from the offense. Unfortunately, it was short lived, and the result was a bitter 41-34 defeat. Seeing a Georgia defense give up 41 points is alarming with all the talent they on that side of the ball. The biggest concern I have is the secondary, which is allowing 7.4 yards per attempt. That ranks 74th in the country. Add in a rush that isn’t up to their standards, and it’s not the vintage defense Georgia fans have gotten used to.

It isn’t all doom and gloom, though, as this Georgia offense is absolutely fantastic. Led by the ing attack and quarterback Carson Beck, Georgia averages north of 300 yards ing per game. With the lack of running attack, they rely heavily on Beck to manufacture offense. It’s Georgia, so despite losing NFL talent like Brock Bowers, they simply just reload. This year is no different. Against Alabama, they were forced to abandon the run due to the game script, but I expect a more balanced attack here. But for them to go into Austin and win, they absolutely need this ing attack to shine.

With all that in mind, let’s talk about Texas. This is clearly their best opponent to date. That’s actually where I want to start — the Longhorns, through no fault of their own, have faced nothing but cupcakes in of opposing quarterbacks. Colorado State, UL Monroe, and UTSA aren’t on a Texas-type level while Michigan, Mississippi State and Oklahoma threw backups and run-first attacks at this defense. Nobody has been even close to challenging this secondary, so it’s a mystery how good they are. Texas is currently first in the country in ing yards allowed per attempt, but when you look at that schedule, that isn’t overly surprising.

On offense, this Texas team has an embarrassment of riches, so a few injuries aren’t a huge deal. We saw backup quarterback Arch Manning fill in for a while, but starter Quinn Ewers has returned, and he will be tasked with putting points on the board against this UGA front. I hate to sound like a broken record, but there isn’t much to pick apart on this offense except the fact they have not faced ample competition up to this point. Ewers has been very efficient, and his ing attack is probably the gameplan vs trying to run against the Georgia front.

To sum it all up, we have a Georgia team that isn’t firing on all cylinders but is more battle-tested than a Texas team that who has played nothing but backup and run-first quarterbacks. Both offenses to me have the advantage, which is the genesis of my favorite play in this game: If I had to pick a side it would be taking the points with Georgia, but the value is on the over in this game. The tempo isn’t great, but the talent is just too much to ignore with both quarterbacks having so much success.

I’ll call for this game to mirror what we saw with Georgia and Alabama, which means we’ll get points in bunches.
