Betts is in a bit of a slump, slashing only .174/259/.435 over the last seven. But if you do the math on those numbers, that means all of Betts’ hits have gone for extra bases. That sample includes three doubles and a home run.
Tonight’s matchup against the Baltimore Orioles and LHP Cole Irvin is a great get-right spot for Betts. Irvin in allowing RHBs to slash .316/.364/.552. Betts is slashing .327/.393/.500 versus LHPs. It’s a match made in Heaven.
Betts’ success against LHPs isn’t some fluke, either. Last year, he slashed .300/.424/.673 against them. In 2022, he slashed .308/.374/.609. Betts hasn’t gotten a hit in two at-bats versus Irvin to date, but he should get one — or multiple — on the board tonight.
The last reason I’m all over this play is the wind. We’ve got a 9.2 mph breeze blowing out in L.A. today with 56% humidity. It’ll be a temperate 75 degrees as well. Look for Betts to take advantage of the favorable matchup and conditions for a multi-base performance.

Oakland’s masher gets a 1.5 hits, runs and RBIs line tonight against lefty Nick Lodolo, and bet365 has it priced at only -130. This seems a tad strange considering the game is projected for nearly 10 runs in one of the best hitting environments in baseball and temperatures pushing 95 degrees in Cincinnati tonight.
Rooker will have the platoon advantage in his favor tonight, and Lodolo has been absolutely cooked by right-handed power bats this season.
The Cincy left-hander has given up 13 homers and is allowing a .711 OPS to right-handers in 2024. He also sports an ERA north of 6.00 in 54.2 innings at home.
What really drives this home — no pun intended — is Lodolo’s limited pitch mix plays directly into the hands of Rooker’s strengths.
It’ll be mostly four-seamers, curveballs and changeups, which Rooker is slugging .515, .609 and .435 on, respectively.
And if Lodolo wants to try to get cute and sneak a sinker by the A’s newly minted 30 home-run man, he’s going to be dealing with a guy who is hitting .412 and slugging .706 against that pitch type.
All things favor Rooker tonight, and at -130, we can’t it up.
