Man, it looked like we were on our way to a 3-0 sweep on our YRFI/NRFI bets Friday night. Ronald Acuna didn’t make us sweat at all with that leadoff homer against Patrick Corbin, but the Diamondbacks-Yankees couldn’t scratch a run for us with those two gas cans on the mound.
However, we did go 2-1 and profited .25 units. Not a huge night, but profit is profit, so we take our W and move to today’s yes and no run first inning bets.

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Miami Marlins First Inning Bet
The Brewers just clinched a postseason berth, but not the NL Central yet. It is, however, all but sewn up for them, as they hold an 8-game lead over the Cubs in the Central.
What does that means for us? It’s an even better spot for a NRFI. The Brewers might be resting a slew of players today, so look for a possible watered-down lineup. Not that our NRFI King Jesus Luzardo needs any help cashing a no run first inning bet … the fella is 25-5 on NRFIs this season. This might be one of the last time to rave about the Marlins lefty, so I want to make note at how devastating he’s been with his 194 Ks in 166.1 innings. Let’s take a walk down Narrative Street for a second, because I’m sure Luzardo wants to reach the 200 K mark for the first time in his career. So, he might be really dialing it up to get those 6 Ks he needs today.
Milwaukee starter Brandon Woodruff holds a 9-1 NRFI record this season — and I think we somehow managed to get the ONE YRFI he gave up this season. Naturally. We’re not deterred at all in this matchup. You know I love to target this Marlins offense, which, despite being in the Wild Card hunt, is still 27th in first-inning runs.
With Vegas having this game listed with an O/U of 7, we’re going in on it.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Diego Padres First Inning Bet
We were basically in a similar spot last night with Braves-Nationals. Granted, no offense in baseball is a one-for-one comp with the Braves, but we’ve got two strong first-inning offenses clashing again.
While I really hate putting real American dollars on the Cardinals because they seem to be the bane of my betting existence (outside of the Red Sox and Tigers this year), I think we have to go to this spot tonight. Nick Martinez is starting for the Padres, who has been solid thus far. There’s no meaningful sample for Cardinals bets against him (5-for-14), but Martinez has been known to give up the home run at times in his career. While St. Louis isn’t a mash unit like Atlanta, it does have over 200 home runs this year as a team. They’re No. 11 in first-inning runs this season, so the top of that order knows how to produce runs. While this isn’t the BEST side of this game for the YRFI, I think there’s still a good chance we could see one.
The real show should begin when the Padres get to tee off on young righty Jake Woodford. The 5-1 no run first inning record is deceptive for Woodford, because he’s NOT a great pitcher by any means. Our guy is sporting a 5.31 ERA and has given up 70 combined hits and walks (51 hits, 19 walks) in 42.1 innings. Break out the NotGreatBob.gif. The Padres LOVE to take a walk, and are behind only the Dodgers for most walks in the league (Dodgers 618, Padres 617). For reference, the team in third has 562.
Let’s see if the Cardinals can do us a solid and plate one in the top half, but if they can’t, I really like the Padres prospects of closing the deal for us in the bottom half.
