2024 French Open: Men’s Tennis Odds & Power Rankings

Updated May 31, 2024 | 8:17 am CDT by Isaiah Sirois

The calendar has turned to May, which means it’s almost time for the next Grand Slam, the French Open. This summer promises plenty of tennis action with the French Open kicking off a run that stretched through Wimbledon to the 2024 Paris Olympics. But without further ado, let’s dive into the 2024 French Open men’s tennis odds (powered by DraftKings Sportsbook) as I provide my men’s tennis power rankings with an eye to the Grand Slam tournament.

2024 French Open odds and men’s tennis power rankings last updated on May 17, 2024.

Men’s Tennis Power Rankings

No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz: +225 at DraftKings

At last year’s French Open, Carlos Alcaraz had the chance to truly assert himself as the top tennis player in the world. He entered the tournament at No. 1 but lost to Novak Djokovic in four sets in the semifinals.

He rebounded by winning Wimbledon, but a semifinal loss at the U.S. Open and disappointing results down the stretch last year and early this year have relegated him to No. 3, behind Djokovic and Jannik Sinner.

But even though Alcaraz has some ground to make up, he deserves to be the favorite in Paris. He trails only Stefanos Tsitsipas in raw Elo rating on clay despite a recent shaky showing at the Madrid Open, which he had won in 2022 and 2023.

I have faith the budding 21-year-old star will get back on track. He was playing injured in Madrid, so he took some time off to recuperate and missed the Italian Open. I’m optimistic the rest and treatment will set him up for success in Paris.

No. 2 Jannik Sinner: +400 at DraftKings

Call me a hater, but I’m not putting ATP No. 1 Novak Djokovic in either the first or second spot on my board. Instead, I’m buying the Jannik Sinner hype: the 22-year-old star has won both the Australian Open and Miami Open this year. He made it to the semifinals in Monte-Carlo and the quarterfinals in Madrid as well.

Sinner ranks third in raw Elo rating on clay, trailing only Tsitsipas and Alcaraz. However, he leads the ATP in overall Elo, and when using a blend of overall and surface-specific Elo, he owns a narrow edge over Alcaraz, 2110 to 2081.9. That difference of 28 would render the matchup between the two a near-pick’em.

I still favor Alcaraz because of how his injury may have affected his form in Madrid, but a bet on Sinner isn’t an unwise one. You won’t want to play the +460 at FanDuel — that’s a great bet to place now as the number should disappear before the tournament begins.

No. 3 Novak Djokovic: +275 at DraftKings

The ATP No. 1 clocks in at third on my power rankings for the French Open. Although Djokovic is trading between Alcaraz and Sinner in the betting markets, that’s likely because the books know they can get public action on him at almost any price, especially after his tournament win last season. Still, Djokovic is only 3-for-19 in Paris, making it his worst Grand Slam tournament by far.

Clay courts haven’t been good to Djokovic recently. He just got bounced in the third round in Rome after scoring a semifinal result at Monte-Carlo. Djokovic ranks an uninspiring fifth in raw Elo rating on clay and ranks third in blended Elo for clay. It’s tight — his 2066.2 is barely behind Alcaraz and isn’t much further behind Sinner — but I find it hard to trust him in his age-37 tournament. He became the oldest winner in the tournament’s history last season. The wheels have to fall off eventually.

No. 4 Alexander Zverev: +600 at DraftKings

Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud are all close, but Zverev gets the edge for his Italian Open victory. He wasn’t looking all that great on clay beforehand but will have momentum at his back as we head to Paris. His blended Elo ranks fifth at 1991.9.

No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas: +800 at DraftKings

Tsitsipas is excellent on clay and owns the best raw Elo on it heading into the French Open. He earned a quarterfinals appearance at the Italian Open, so, like Zverev, he’s in good form as he looks for his first-ever Grand Slam win.

No. 6 Casper Ruud: +1200 at DraftKings

The runner-up in each of the last two French Opens, Casper Ruud will look to finally get the job done this year. Although he started off strong on clay this year with a runner-up at Monte-Carlo and a win at Barcelona, his fourth-round exit at Madrid and second-round exit at Rome are reminders of his inconsistency.
