We need a points parlay for Game 1 of the Finals, ideally with an odds boost attached. Who do we think we’re going to get?
Why, the two favorites to win NBA Finals MVP, of course.
Tatum and Doncic are -115 and +200, respectively, to take home the honors — the next closest is Jaylen Brown at +600 on Caesars. However, this 30-point mark has been a tough one for Tatum; he’s only averaging 26 a game during the postseason, and only four times in 14 tries has he hit 30.
Much of that has been due to a slow start, however.
Tatum did not have his first 30-point outing until the eighth game of the playoffs; since then, he has dropped 30-plus in four of seven and averaged 30.3.
Sure, Boston has a lot of balance that hurts Tatum’s scoring upside — namely Brown, who won East Finals MVP. But Tatum will almost certainly have 30 in a game this series, and Game 1 at home is a good spot against a Dallas team that has not been here before.
Then there is Doncic, who averaged nearly 34 a game in the regular season and scored 30 in four of his last five. This part of the bet doesn’t need nearly as much convincing. Doncic will likely be dribbling the air out of the ball for 40-plus minutes in Game 1, so 30 points is a solid expectation for him.
With the odds boosted to +325 for both of them to drop 30-plus, we have some solid value to go with our Game 1 sweat.
