Real Madrid was close behind in net rating at 7.4, but it boasted the fourth-ranked offense (119.5) and second-ranked defense (112.1). Unsurprisingly, the books are favoring Olympiacos, albeit by a slight margin.
Olympiacos swept Real Madrid in the clubs’ two regular-season meetings. The Greek club won the first contest by a narrow two-point margin last October before scoring a much more impressive 13-point win in January. Olympiacos star Sasha Vezenkov, who won this year’s MVP Award and ranked second among all Euroleague players in player efficiency rating (PER), led the way in both games with 38 total points.
Real Madrid lacks an individual player capable of answering Vezenkov’s production. The club has leaned on Dzanan Musa to fill that role, but the 24-year-old swingman ranked only ninth in PER (21.9) and hasn’t shot as efficiently as Vezenkov. Further, Real Madrid also won’t have backup center Vincent Poirier, who, in the club’s last meeting with Olympiacos, led the team in rebounds and ranked second in box plus-minus.
