Houston and Arizona both have something to play for, and we’re getting two strong arms from both teams — Justin Verlander and Merrill Kelly. Kelly is 22-7 on his no run first inning chances this season, and has some ridiculous career numbers against the Astros. In 22 ABs, Kelly has allowed only 3 hits, 3 walks and allowed exactly ZERO runs. Not too shabby, eh? I don’t suspect he can hold them down forever, but he can for at least 3 outs in the first.

Verlander on the other hand, has rounded back into form late this season. He’s 15-11 on NRFIs, but he’s cashed the NRFI in 2 straight games and that includes games against the Mariners and Orioles. It appears he’s found his strikeout again, notching 26 Ks in his last 4 starts. I think we’re going to get a hype Verlander, which might give some added adrenaline and help him dial it up in the bottom of the 1st for us.

Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners First Inning Bet

If you know anything, you know there are a handful of pitchers I have full-blown man crushes on, and Luis Castillo is one of them. The fellas just DEALS. We’ve rocked with him all season long to cash NRFIs for us, and we’re going to ride him again in this matchup. He’s 24-8 on NRFIs and is 2-0 on no run first innings against the Rangers this year. He’ll be fired up for this game with a lot on the line, and I’m hoping we get a Classic Castillo.

The Rangers placed Jon Gray on the IL, and announced Andrew Heaney as their starter for today’s game. Initially, it sounds bad, right? What if I told you … Heany is actually 20-7 on NRFIs and has looked GREAT of late, despite not starting? He’s given up ONE run in his last 5 innings, and has 5 Ks as well. He faced the Mariners on Sept. 22 and 28, and had 4 Ks in 3.1 combined innings. Heaney has NRFI’d the Mariners once already this season, let’s look for him to do it again tonight!
