Spring Training kicks off tomorrow, and while it will be tune up for many veteran MLB players, there is a new crop of rookies hoping to make a strong impression and break camp with the big league club. Of course, not all rookies are created equal. Some have higher hopes than just making the team. Standouts like the Biltmore Oriole’s Gunnar Henderson and the Minnesota Twins’ Royce Lewis will be vying for the American League Rookie of the Year award. With Spring Training about to get under way, let’s look at the futures market for the AL Rookie of the Year.

2023 American League Rookie of the Year Odds: Gunnar Henderson Tops the List

It’s no surprise that Gunnar Henderson has the shortest odds to win the award at 3.5:1. The nineteen year old third baseman is set to takeover the position as Baltimore’s starter this year. After getting drafted in the 2nd round in 2019, Henderson has had a meteoric rise through the Oriole’s farm system. He’s hit for a .276 average over 1087 ABs across three minor league levels over his three seasons in the organization. That and Henderson’s raw ability has led both MLB.com and Baseball America to rank him as the top prospect in baseball.
Henderson saw a brief stint with the Orioles last season, hitting four home runs in 132 plate appearances. He’ll look to continue his improvement next year alongside last year’s MLB Rookie of the Year runner-up Adley Rutschman.
Anything can happen in a long MLB season, and many other rookies have potential to take down the hardware. SS Royce Lewis (+750), RP Hunter Brown (+800), 1B Triston Casas (+900), SS Anthony Volpe (+900) and OF Masataka Yoshida (+95) are all within striking distance on the Rookie of the Year odds board. Catcher Logan O’Hoppe and SP Grayson Rodriguez come in at +1000 each.

Hunter Brown (Houston Astros) may be familiar to fans after making two appearances in the Astros’ ALDS series against the Seattle Mariners and one appearance in the ALCS. He did not have any outings in the World Series, but he’ll look to carve out a bigger role this season.
Logan O’Hoppe is the only catcher among the top names. He will get a shot to play on a big league club with only journeyman catcher Max Stassi in his way.
