Vasiliy Lomahenko has very little left to prove in the boxing ring but will be making another run at a championship belt when taking on lightweight champion Devin Haney on Saturday night. Both of these fighters have not faced the toughest competition in recent bouts. For Haney, the fight with a big name such as Lomachenko serves as an opportunity to gain some respect in the boxing community and assert himself as the rightful champion. He has won his last six fights via decision, last defending his belt against George Kambosos Jr. in October of 2022.
Lomachenko began his illustrious boxing career in the featherweight division, winning the championship before moving up to lightweight and winning a gold medal in that weight class. His technical skill has been on full display throughout his career, and he was able to become a household name after an impressive eight-fight finish streak that extended from 2015-2018.
But at 35 years old, Lomachenko has clearly lost a step and does not possess the same ability as he did when finishing all of his opponents. He is coming off a win in his last three fights but has not fought anyone of the same caliber as Haney. The younger fighter has the reach advantage, is in his ideal weight class and should be able to wear Lomachenko down.
