The Panthers refused to sell at the trade deadline and the move has worked out, as the team now owns a 64% chance of making the playoffs, per FiveThirtyEight.
The Panthers will take on the Detroit Red Wings tonight. Unlike Florida, Detroit sold at the trade deadline. The Panthers are also 2-0 against the Red Wings this season and haven’t lost to them since February 2021. With top option Sergei Bobrovsky in net, the Panthers have a big advantage at goalie. Bobrovsky ranks 14th in goals saved above expected, or GSAO (10.2), while Detroit’s Ville Husso ranks 86th (-7.2).
Edmonton Oilers Moneyline (-315)
The Edmonton Oilers aren’t a perfect team, but they are much better than the eliminated San Jose Sharks. San Jose ranks a futile last in the Pacific Division and is 1-7-2 through its last 10 games.
Edmonton has every reason to win this game. They are just four points behind the second-ranked Los Angeles Kings and must keep winning to improve their stock before the playoffs. They are unlikely to let this game slide.
