Many PGA fans out there were disappointed Jordan Spieth could not win the Valspar Championship on Sunday, with Taylor Moore firing off a -4 finish to steal the tournament. But the Jordan Spieth Masters odds show he will be among the favorites to win the most prestigious tournament in the game.
Jordan Spieth Master Odds: Is Spieth a Threat to Win Another Green Jacket?
Per DraftKings Sportsbook, Jordan Spieth (+1800) is among the top-five favorites to win The Masters. He is behind just Jon Rahm (+700), Scottie Scheffler (+800), Rory McIlroy (+800) and Cameron Smith (+800). Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa are each tied with Spieth at +1800.
Spieth came into Sunday as the betting favorite to win the Valspar Championship but closed with a final round 70 to finish the tournament at -8 (tied for third). In typical Spieth fashion, the final round on Sunday featured a little bit of everything, with the hectic nature of his golf game on full display during a 16th-hole bogey. Spieth drove the ball into the water and opted to lay up on the third shot, but was able to drain a 14-foot putt to pull off the bogey and keep him in contention. He followed by hitting his first shot within 10 feet of the hole on the par-3 17 but missed the ensuing putt.
Now, Spieth will turn his focus to keep his game in top form ahead of The Masters. The 29-year-old pointed to a change in his putting approach when talking about how he plans to get back to the dominance we saw we he first busted on the scene in the PGA.
“I’ve had a tendency for a few years that’s been a really bad tendency,” Spieth said of the reasoning behind his putting work, per golf.com. “It was trying to continue to find ways, instead of just in a path feel, but actually in a big — I’m trying to take my hands out and use my big muscles more. I’ve always been a little handsy putting in a good way. A lot of great putters are handsy. Rickie Fowler and Tiger use his hands, Ben Crenshaw. So I think I’ll always still have that, but I was relying on it.
“When I would have pressure on or as I got closer to the hole I didn’t have time to make up for what was going on in the stroke,” he continued. “I was just putting really bad strokes on it. Now I feel like I don’t have to save it and it’s a very freeing, feeling it just needs more and more reps in tournament rounds and it just gets better.”
The golf world is hoping Spieth can get back to the mountaintop and although he could not hoist the Valspar Championship trophy, the early Jordan Spieth Masters odds show he has a real chance to win another Green Jacket next month..
